About Manoli Olympitis

Emmanuel ‘Manoli’ Olympitis is a trusted and successful British business leader, whose varied directorships across business sectors have afforded him with multiple regulatory qualifications in the UK, the US and around the world. He has a track record of returning a broad range of banking and financial services groups to profitability, making him a highly sought-after member of several company boards.

Mr Olympitis has a wide range of experience; in oil and gas exploration, consumer-focussed instant service equipment, property investment and cable broadcast retail operations. His current appointments include being Non-Executive Director & Chairman of the Audit Committee of Photo-Me International Plc, Director of China Cablecom Holdings Ltd and Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Canoel Energy Ltd.

Mr Olympitis took an LLB Honours degree from University College London in 1970 and undertook a pupillage at the Inns of Court. Moving into merchant banking from 1976, Mr Olympitis was Executive Director of Bankers Trust International Ltd until 1980 and President of venture capital and mergers & acquisitions boutique Centaur Resources in New York. He was subsequently Group Chief Executive of Aitken Hume International Plc between 1986 and 1989. Moving to Johnson & Higgins as Chairman and Managing Director in May 1992, Mr Olympitis brought the company a Queen’s Award for Exports in 1994.

More recently, from 1999 to 2004, Mr Olympitis was Executive Chairman of Pacific Media Plc, a fully listed LSE retail/media/e-commerce company focussed on Asia. Under his stewardship the market capitalisation increased from £5 million in October 1999 to a peak of £300 million in 2000. The company then joined the full LSE at the end of 2000 with the acquisition of TV Media Group, having previously been listed on the AIM. Pacific Media was subsequently sold in 2004 to a major private Taiwanese group. Mr Olympitis subsequently served as Chairman of Petrocapital Resources Plc until the end of May 2010.

A published author (By Victories Undone, Quartet 1988) and sometime contributor to The New York Times Op-Ed page, Mr Olympitis was a member of the British International Fencing Squad and the British Olympic Squad for the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games.

Formerly married to American socialite Jan Cushing with whom he has a son, Mr Olympitis is married to Emily Todhunter, the Chelsea-based renowned interior designer, with whom he has three children.
